The land in which the current Samathidhammaram Centre resides was donated by Khun Mae’s father, Mr Siri Katekaew (in Thailand father is pronounced as “Phor”, “phaw”- พ่อ).
During the initial period before the shrine hall and sleeping quarters of Samadhidhammaram Centre were completed, Phor opened up his family home, which is located near the temple to us as sleeping quarters, bathroom, washing and for having our meals.
Khun Mae’s father Phor has been very supportive and would constantly be seen offering assistance towards those who were undergoing ordination.
Phor has such a generous and kind heart and is always concerned and supportive of those who come to practice. Even though Phor could only speak Thai, but his smile through his winkled weather beaten face and kindness shining through his eyes could be felt directly by the hearts of those who have met him.
Sadly during late 2014, Phor was diagnosed with cancer. The cancer seemed to have spread. Phor had lost most of the energy that he had used to. But in December during event, he had wanted to get up from his bed to help out in the hair shaving even though he was so weak.
Throughout the years Khun Mae has helped tirelessly, offering advice to help solve various issues and troubles burdening the hearts of many people. Just as Khun Mae has advised countless people that it is important to pay gratitude to one’s parents….now as Khun Mae’s father is unwell , it is time for Khun Mae to take care of her father- offering encouragement and strength for him in his time of need.
In January 2015, Khun Mae was unable to extend further her trip to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Singapore after the Ipoh Year End Chanting event as she had to go back to take care of her father.
If her father gets better, Khun Mae plan to organize a Sanghadana for 90 monks. The tentative date would be on
1 March 2015 1 February 2015 (date amended as Khun Mae’s father is considerably weak and now he is unable to speak). Many of us have parents who are still alive, we can also perform Sanghadana to monks and make the aspiration for our parents to have a long and healthy life. For those who wish to contribute and join in the Sanghadana, you are most welcomed to do so.
