无畏偈

Yandunnimittaṁ avamaṅgalañca
Yo cāmanāpo sakuṇassa saddo
Pāpaggaho dussupinaṁ akantaṁ
Buddhānubhāvena vināsamentu.
Whatever unlucky signs and inauspiciousness, and the sound of birds which is not pleasing, evil planets, bad dreams, undesired; by the power of the Buddha’s may they be destroyed.
任何不祥的征兆,任何不悦耳的乌啼声,恶星,梦靥以及一切不
如意的事,愿佛力的加持,一一化解,消失。

The Story behind Abhayaparittam (The Fearless Protection) 无畏偈

This discourse seems to share some similarity with part of the Burmese Pubbanha Sutta or Discourse on a good morning. Composed by wise sages of ancient time the whole Pubbanha Sutta contained nineteen stanzas based on the three verses found in Agguttara Nikaya- Pubbanha Sutta and one verse in Sutta Nipata- Ratana Sutta.

“Oh! Noble Ones! Whosoever, at early morning, noon and evening practice a wholesome action of body, speech and mind, such a one will have a happy morning, a happy day and a happy evening…”

This Paritta is recited for protection against epidemics, wars and famine in a country, and for individual, it is recited to avoid misfortunes due to undesirable influence of the planets.

Though the name of the Paritta is Good Morning, it can be chanted at any time- in the morning, afternoon or late in the evening.
