The Verses of the Buddha’s Auspicious Victories
佛胜吉祥偈

Bāhuṁ sahassam-abhinimmita-sāvudhantaṁ
Grīmekhalaṁ udita-ghora-sasena-māraṁ
Dānādi-dhamma-vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni.
Creating a form with thousand arms, each equipped with a weapon, Mara on the elephant Girimekhala uttered a frightening roar together with his troops. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of such qualities as generosity. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
展现千手之相,手中各执兵器,指挥着大军的魔罗,骑在克立米卡拉象上
怒吼着,牟尼世尊以法施等降服了它,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Mārātirekamabhiyujjhita-sabba-rattiṁ
Ghorampanāḷavakamakkhamathaddha-yakkhaṁ
Khantī-sudanta-vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Even more frightful than Mara making war all night was Alavaka, the arrogant unstable ogre. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of well-trained endurance. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
威力胜于魔罗,日夜宣战是那可怖的夜叉阿拉哇卡,火爆急躁及自大,
牟尼世尊以无比的忍辱调服了它,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Nāḷāgiriṁ gaja-varaṁ atimattabhūtaṁ
Dāvaggi-cakkamasanīva sudāruṇantaṁ
Mettambuseka-vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Nalagiri, the excellent elephant, when maddened, was very horrific, like a forest fire, a flaming discus, a lightning bolt. The Lord of Sages defeated him by sprinkling the water of goodwill. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
醉狂的御象那拉其陵,狂如森林的大火,威如火轮,猛如雷电,牟尼世尊 施以慈悲的甘露调服了它,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Ukkhitta-khaggam-atihattha sudāruṇantaṁ
Dhāvan-ti-yojana-path’anguli-mālavantaṁ
Iddhībhisaṅkhata-mano jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Very horrific, with a sword upraised in his expert hand, Angulimala’s garlanded-with-fingers ran three leagues along the path. The Lord of Sages defeated him with mind-fashioned marvels. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
穷凶极恶的盎哥罗魔,以熟练的手挥着大刀,追赶了三由旬的路,
那佩带指环的恶魔,牟尼世尊以神变的力量调服了他,以此威力故,
愿你获得胜吉祥。

Katvāna kaṭṭham-udaraṁ iva gabbhinīyā
Ciñcāya duṭṭha-vacanaṁ jana-kāya-majjhe
Santena soma-vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Having made a wooden belly to appear pregnant, Cinca made a lewd accusation in the midst of the gathering. The Lord of Sages defeated her with peaceful, gracious means. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
以木块伪装着大肚子,旃奢摩那祗于众人前(对佛)作出毁谤,牟尼世尊
以默然的方法加以化解,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Saccaṁ vihāya mati-saccaka-vāda-ketuṁ
Vādābhiropita-manaṁ ati-andhabhūtaṁ
Paññā-padīpa -jalito jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Saccaka, whose provocative views had abandoned the truth, delighting in argument, had become thoroughly blind. The Lord of Sages defeated him with the light of discernment. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
沙加卡心识被蒙蔽,言论网顾真理,高举自己的论调如高举旗帜一般,
牟尼世尊以智慧明灯调服了他,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Nandopananda-bhujagaṁ vibudhaṁ mahiddhiṁ
Puttena thera-bhujagena damāpayanto
Iddhūpadesa-vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
Nandopananda was a serpent with great power but wrong views. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of a display of marvels, sending his spiritual son Moggallana, set out as serpent-elder to tame him. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
拥有大神力,但具有邪见的蛇王南罗巴难陀,佛遣大弟子目犍连
化现蛇王相而加制服,牟尼世尊加以开导的方法,感化了他,
以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Duggāha-diṭṭhi-bhujagena sudaṭṭha-hatthaṁ
Brahmaṁ visuddhi-jutim-iddhi-bakābhidhānaṁ
Ñāṇāgadena vidhinā jitavā munindo
Tan-tejasā bhavatu te jaya-maṅgalāni
His hands bound tight by the serpent of wrongly held views, Baka, the Brahma, thought himself pure in his radiance & power. The Lord of Sages defeated him by means of his words of knowledge. By the power of this, may you have victory blessings.
受邪见系缚,犹如被蛇紧缠双手一样,那具大威力及光芒灿烂的梵天天神
巴卡,牟尼世尊以智慧的法药调服了他,以此威力故,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Etāpi buddha-jaya-maṅgala-aṭṭha-gāthā
Yo vācano dinadine sarate matandī
Hitvānaneka-vividhāni cupaddavāni
Mokkhaṁ sukhaṁ adhigameyya naro sapañño
These eight verses of the Buddha’s victory blessings. Whoever person of discernment recites or recalls them day after day without lapsing, destroying all kinds of obstacles, will attain emancipation & happiness.
这八首佛胜吉祥偈,应当天天诵念,时时思维,以便祛除种种的障碍,
有智慧的人,皆可获得安乐与解脱。

胜利护卫偈

Mahā-kāruṇiko nātho hitāya sabba-pāṇinaṁ
Pūretvā pārami sabbā patto sambodhim-uttamaṁ
Etena sacca-vajjena hotu te jaya-maṅgalaṁ
(The Buddha), our protector, with great compassion, for the welfare of all beings, having fulfilled all the perfections, attained the highest self-awakening. By the speaking of this truth, may you be blessed with victory.
具足大悲心的世尊,为了一切众生的幸福,圆满一切的波罗蜜,
自证无上的菩提,以这真实的话语,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Jayanto bodhiyā mūle sakyānaṁ nandi-vaḍḍhano
Evaṁ tvaṁ vijayo hohi jayassu jaya-maṅgale
Victorious at the foot of the Bodhi tree, was he who increased the Sakyans’ delight. Thus may victory be yours, may you win the blessing of victory.
世尊于菩提树下(战胜魔罗)所获得的胜利,为释迦族人带来无限的欢悦。
因此,愿胜利归于你,愿你获得胜吉祥。

Aparājita-pallaṅke sīse paṭhavi-pokkhare
Abhiseke sabba-buddhānaṁ aggappatto pamodati
At the head of the lotus leaf of the world, on the undefeated seat consecrated by all the Buddhas, He rejoiced in the utmost attainment.
以战不败的坐姿端坐在那诸佛加持的圣座上,世尊沉浸于那最高无上
的成就中。

Suṇakkhattaṁ sumaṅgalaṁ supabhātaṁ suhuṭṭhitaṁ
Sukhaṇo sumuhutto ca suyiṭṭhaṁ brahmacārisu
A lucky star it is, a lucky blessings, a lucky dawn, a lucky sacrifice, a lucky instant, a lucky moment, a lucky offering, well given to Brahmacaris,
吉祥的星、吉祥的祝福、吉祥的曙光、吉祥的奉献、吉时、吉辰、
以及吉祥的供养,给予一切梵行者。

Padakkhiṇaṁ kāya-kammaṁ vācā-kammaṁ padakkhiṇaṁ
Padakkhiṇaṁ mano-kammaṁ paṇidhī te padakkhiṇā
Padakkhiṇāni katvāna labhantatthe, padakkhiṇe
A rightful bodily act, a rightful verbal act, a rightful mental act, your rightful intentions with regard to those who lead the chaste life. Doing these rightful things, your rightful aims are achieved.

正当的行为,正当的语言,正当的意念,正当的愿力,所行所作皆正确,
必将导向正确的目标 (那即是涅盘)。

Bhavatu sabbamaṅgalaṁ rakkhantu sabbadevatā
May all blessing come to you, may all the Devas guard you well.
致予你一切的吉祥,愿你得到所有天人的护佑,

Sabbabuddhānubhāvena sadā sotthī bhavantu te
By the power of all the Buddhas, ever in safety may you be.
仗恃诸佛的威德力,愿你获得常恒的安乐。

Bhavatu sabbamaṅgalaṁ rakkhantu sabbadevatā
May all blessing come to you, may all the Devas guard you well.
致予你一切的吉祥,愿你得到所有天人的护佑,

Sabbadhammānubhāvena sadā sotthī bhavantu te
By the power of all the Dhammas, ever in safety may you be.
仗恃诸法的威德力,愿你获得常恒的安乐。

Bhavatu sabbamaṅgalaṁ rakkhantu sabbadevatā
May all blessing come to you, may all the Devas guard you well.
致予你一切的吉祥,愿你得到所有天人的护佑,

Sabbasaṅghanubhāvena sadā sotthī bhavantu te
By the power of all the Sanghas, ever in safety may you be.
仗恃僧伽的威德力,愿你获得常恒的安乐。

The Story Behind Buddha Jaya Mangala Gatha 佛胜吉祥偈

Khun Mae has always emphasized the importance of this of chant as it helps one to overcome obstacles. Realising the signifance of this sutta, she had made the effort to memorise it during her initial years ordination. She had advised us to memorise this chant if possible and chant it every day or when walking to places where you don’t particularly feel comfortable.

Herein is a story behind Buddha Jaya Mangala Gatha- how each stanzas came about and that each of them are taken from the Buddha’s life story of how the Buddha overcame each obstacle and challenge with his virtues. The book is written by Acharya Buddharakkhita.
